Since moving to Westlake in 2004 for the Eanes education, Diane has developed many relationships through her work in the community and the activities of her children. Take a look at what others have to say about Diane - how she thinks, what she values, and how she applies her skillset.

Long Format Endorsements

Jenn Lamm

Westlake parent, Former Lost Creek Neighborhood Association President, Public School Counselor

I have known Diane Hern for 15 years and completely respect her work ethic, commitment, passion and intelligence. She is always open to learn and grow. We have had many thought-provoking discussions. She is a lifelong learner and open to hearing others' thought processes and views. She is a fierce advocate for students, and I cannot imagine a better candidate for EISD board.

Julia Webber

Architect & Former Eanes ISD Trustee

I wholeheartedly support Diane for reelection to our local school board. Diane is the rare kind of leader who combines preparation, intellectual rigor, and authenticity. She is an exceptional listener who seeks to understand before seeking to be understood. She comes to every issue prepared, and when faced with complex questions, she actively gathers information—meeting with stakeholders, listening to differing viewpoints, and ensuring she fully understands all sides before making decisions.

Her judgment is grounded not only in facts, but in a moral compass centered on kindness and the best interests of the entire community. She is not afraid to ask hard questions, and she approaches challenges with curiosity and independent thinking. Diane does not simply follow trends or act as a cheerleader for ideas she hasn’t carefully examined. Instead, she models thoughtful leadership, intellectual honesty, and respect for others.

Having served for three years, Diane now brings maturity, historical context, and experienced insight to the board’s work. That experience matters. Strong governance develops over time, and her steady presence contributes meaningfully to the board’s effectiveness.

Beyond the boardroom, Diane is deeply engaged in our community. Through her leadership in Rotary and her volunteer work, she empowers others to make a positive impact locally and beyond. She knows people across all spectrums of our district and community, and she is uniquely positioned to strengthen relationships and build coalitions that advance the board’s initiatives.

Diane is the kind of person who will continue to do meaningful work no matter where she serves. I want her intense energy, sharp mind, and steady focus directed toward our district during this pivotal time. The next three years will require experienced leadership and thoughtful decision-making to navigate the challenges ahead, and I can think of no one better prepared to meet that moment than Diane.

Vidhya Pai

Eanes Parent and Architect

I’ve had the privilege of knowing Diane Hern for over a decade, and I am truly grateful for her unwavering commitment to our community. From leading Relay for Life to supporting so many meaningful local causes, Diane has always served with quiet dedication, humility, and heart.

An MIT-trained chemical engineer, she brings both exceptional intellect and thoughtful leadership, but what truly sets her apart is her deep passion for public education. She leads not for recognition, but because she genuinely cares about our children and our schools.

The fact that she is running again for the school board, even after her own children have graduated, speaks volumes about her selflessness and courage. Diane leans into challenges and is committed to doing the hard work to make our district stronger. I wholeheartedly support her and am confident our schools will be better because of her continued leadership.

Jeff Simpler

Parent of two successful Westlake graduates

I am proud to endorse Diane Hern for reelection to the Eanes ISD Board of Trustees, Place 3. I have known Diane for 14 years, and throughout that time she has consistently demonstrated thoughtfulness, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to public service. Her academic background—spanning MIT, Stanford University, and the University of Texas at Austin—speaks to her intellectual rigor, but it is her judgment and character that truly distinguishes her as a trustee.

As a former president of the Westlake Band Parents organization, I developed a deep appreciation for what it takes to thoughtfully lead, manage diverse perspectives, and balance priorities in a large and passionate community. I have seen Diane operate in that same environment—calm under pressure, discerning in her decision‑making, and deeply attentive to the long‑term health of the district. She listens carefully, asks the right questions, and brings both analytical clarity and empathy to complex issues. Most importantly, Diane is profoundly dedicated to the Eanes community.

As a parent whose three equally accomplished children attended and benefited from Eanes ISD, she understands the district not just in theory, but in practice—academically, socially, and culturally. Her service on the Board reflects a genuine desire to preserve what makes Eanes exceptional while ensuring it continues to evolve and thrive for future generations. Eanes ISD is stronger because of Diane Hern’s leadership, and I wholeheartedly support her continued service as Trustee.

Tom and Peggy Romberg

54 year Westlake residents, proud grandparents of a current Eanes alumna teacher

We know that Diane is extremely well qualified, has the time to serve, is most desirous to continue serving, and is a Trustee that we are most comfortable to have representing the school's and our interests for the best school system.

Mo Greulich

Eanes parent and retired Barton Creek Elementary Gifted & Talented Teacher

Even as a destination district, Eanes ISD faces significant budget challenges from limited legislative support, inflation and declining enrollment. Our community needs a leader who asks the right questions, listens to all perspectives and drives excellence for every student. Diane has proven in her first term that she is qualified, thoughtful and committed.

Ed Martin

A long-time resident of Westlake

Diane is a very good person and a Rotarian. She believes in the motto "Service above Self". She is dedicated to the Westlake community. She is very knowledgeable about the school district, and her steady hand on the tiller is beneficial to the Eanes community.  We need Diane on the Eanes School Board.

Bill and Jill Williams

30+ year Westlake residents, parents of 2 Westlake alumnae

We could not be more pleased with the education our girls we received and the opportunities presented to them in the way of extracurricular activities.  The faculty and administration were outstanding.  We are supporting Diane because we know she will make hard decisions that will keep the school system on the right path so the next generation may have the same positive experience our family had!
